Birthday Yumminess

Hello There!!

I found a lot of great food ideas on pinterest that I wanted to use for Owen's Carnival birthday party.
Outside of the standard corn dogs and corn on a stick, we also had the following.

These are catipillar grape kabobs. They went like hotcakes on a cold winter's day. I found the idea here.
Then there were these little tasty treats.

Birthday cake popcorn. Does it get any better than this? Here is where I found this little piece of heaven.
We also tried our hands at making these little ditties that you can find here.

Three different flavors: strawberry, grape, and orange. mmm mmm mm!
And last, but certainly not least...

A swiss meringue buttercream birthday cake filled with the most important flavor at a carnival.

COTTON CANDY!! {I found little packets from Duncan Hines that flavors frosting.}

The kids absolutely LOVED it!

I found the idea here over at Whisk Kid. What a FUN blog!

"Youth comes but once in a lifetime." - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

After Saturday's birthday, I truly believe this. A huge thank you goes out to my friend K. She stuck with me all day. And I mean ALL day. She was at my house at 730, and didn't leave until ??? Honestly, I really don't know. That's how great she is.

There were a couple of games the kids played that I got from NBCs  Minute to Win It. This is the Elephant March. You take hose/stockings of some sort (got ours from the Dollar Store) and put a ball in the toe. You line up 6-10 water bottles in two different lines and without using your hands, you try to knock down the water balls in 60 seconds. We just did races and the kids had a blast!

Doesn't it look like FUN?!

Have you ever played?

After the Elephant March game, and a break to jump on the trampoline,  they played A BIT DICEY. It's a game where you have to stack dice (we used 5) on a Popsicle stick that you hold in your mouth. This game got two thumbs up from Owen.

It's funny watching children interact with one another, specifically how Owen is with his guy friends vs. his girl friends. He definitely is a lady's man.

Thanks for putting up with my SOOC shots. I hope your eyes don't have sores on them. ;o)

More to come...

be blessed

Happy Mother's Day

Here is a quick run down of today's house update. I've missed a couple weeks due to being extremely busy with getting O's carnival birthday put together. (That will come later this week.)

So here goes..

It's almost like those puzzles in the Sunday paper... You know, the ones where you have to guess the differences between the photos. So do you notice what has changed this week?

So that's it!
Coming right along.
We are on the count down now.
There is just a hair more than a month before school ends and we are out of our current house.

I hope that all the parents who fill the role of a mother had a wonderful day today!

"Any ground subtracts its own hue from the colors which it carries and therefore influences." Joseph Albers

We {read me} had debated for months now what colors to use for the inital coating of paint in the new house. My co-workers, {you know the one is a 15 year paint pro, and one who is an ex-builders exec}, assured me it would still be weeks before we needed to know the colors, and I should stop stressing about it.

So I did.

And then I got the email from James on Wednesday morning that our builder needed to know the colors. Okay, I thought. I could have them by this past weekend. And when I asked when he needed them, I nearly sh!t my pants when he said "Today. They are painting tomorrow."

Panic stricken, I put my work for the day beside, and this is what I chose.

It's called 'On The Rocks', which I found fitting in more ways than one. {I'll leave you to use your imagination. }

I also picked Extra White for my office, the room over the garage and all of the closets. {Who knew that there were SO many shades of white? Sherwin Williams, that's who!}

There is an extra charge for adding additional colors {or subtracting if you may} and that is why we decided to only do these two. It will give us time to decide what we actually WANT in our home once we are moved in.

Here is how it looks with the overcast lighting we had from Sunday.

Did you know they don't paint where the cabinetry goes? Weird. Had I known, I would have asked them to paint the entire wall. It's just weird!

Anyway, that's the update for the week. Photos courtesty of my iphone.

Have a great week!

be good to one another!

Birthday Preparations

O's birthday was in March. We've had various things going on, and have finally planned a party for him. He turned TEN. (I can hardly believe it, myself!)

This year we are doing a party like we've never done.

It doesn't involve movie characters.

It doesn't involve cartoon characters.

But what it does involve is some good ole fashioned FUN!

It probably won't be as fantastic as I could have made it with a month's time of planning....

BUT... He already LOVES how his cake is going to turn out.

Here is where I found the idea on Pinterest.

How does it looks so far?

Have you done a cake like this and have suggestions of dos or don'ts? I'd love to hear them before I attempt to frost it on Thursday night.

AND... if you follow any of the pins I pinned, you already know what the theme is!

It's a CARNIVAL!!

I will post tomorrow where I ended up getting all of the printables!

be blessed!

And Then There Was Drywall

Hello! Hello!

I am jumping ahead a couple of weeks to the video I took today because I am so freaking excited it finally looks like a HOUSE inside! They were tape and texturing today.

It's only my second video, so be gentle! I just learned house to use the video on my camera this week! (Thank you Matt!)

When it comes to the FROG window, we couldn't figure out why it had been removed, but later learned it was to get the sheet-rock up stairs.

So what do you think?

Have a great weekend!

be blessed!
