"Any ground subtracts its own hue from the colors which it carries and therefore influences." Joseph Albers

We {read me} had debated for months now what colors to use for the inital coating of paint in the new house. My co-workers, {you know the one is a 15 year paint pro, and one who is an ex-builders exec}, assured me it would still be weeks before we needed to know the colors, and I should stop stressing about it.

So I did.

And then I got the email from James on Wednesday morning that our builder needed to know the colors. Okay, I thought. I could have them by this past weekend. And when I asked when he needed them, I nearly sh!t my pants when he said "Today. They are painting tomorrow."

Panic stricken, I put my work for the day beside, and this is what I chose.

It's called 'On The Rocks', which I found fitting in more ways than one. {I'll leave you to use your imagination. }

I also picked Extra White for my office, the room over the garage and all of the closets. {Who knew that there were SO many shades of white? Sherwin Williams, that's who!}

There is an extra charge for adding additional colors {or subtracting if you may} and that is why we decided to only do these two. It will give us time to decide what we actually WANT in our home once we are moved in.

Here is how it looks with the overcast lighting we had from Sunday.

Did you know they don't paint where the cabinetry goes? Weird. Had I known, I would have asked them to paint the entire wall. It's just weird!

Anyway, that's the update for the week. Photos courtesty of my iphone.

Have a great week!

be good to one another!

Birthday Preparations

O's birthday was in March. We've had various things going on, and have finally planned a party for him. He turned TEN. (I can hardly believe it, myself!)

This year we are doing a party like we've never done.

It doesn't involve movie characters.

It doesn't involve cartoon characters.

But what it does involve is some good ole fashioned FUN!

It probably won't be as fantastic as I could have made it with a month's time of planning....

BUT... He already LOVES how his cake is going to turn out.

Here is where I found the idea on Pinterest.

How does it looks so far?

Have you done a cake like this and have suggestions of dos or don'ts? I'd love to hear them before I attempt to frost it on Thursday night.

AND... if you follow any of the pins I pinned, you already know what the theme is!

It's a CARNIVAL!!

I will post tomorrow where I ended up getting all of the printables!

be blessed!

And Then There Was Drywall

Hello! Hello!

I am jumping ahead a couple of weeks to the video I took today because I am so freaking excited it finally looks like a HOUSE inside! They were tape and texturing today.

It's only my second video, so be gentle! I just learned house to use the video on my camera this week! (Thank you Matt!)

When it comes to the FROG window, we couldn't figure out why it had been removed, but later learned it was to get the sheet-rock up stairs.

So what do you think?

Have a great weekend!

be blessed!

Floor Cleaner

Hey there!

I hope you all had a great weekend! It rained from about ten o'clock Saturday night, from on our way home from Maryland, until early this morning, and continues to rain on and off today. YAY!! That means it will be slow at work, and I have enough time to say a quick hello.

If we are facebook friends, you know that I was inquiring about a floor cleaner yesterday for our laminate flooring that we have in our current home. What I was using was the chemical-based cleaner that left streaks across the floor as I cleaned it on my hands and knees. (Something I don't do very often, but it really needed it!) A few of you offered up suggestions of Vinegar and Water. And I was SO grateful! I did rewash the floors, but the shine wasn't quite there.

Today, as I logged onto Pinterest, I found what I am hoping will add a great shine to our floors. (THANKS MOM for pinning it!!) Unfortunately, I didn't ask permission to repost the photos, so all I have is a link which you can find RiGhT hErE. I won't have time to redo the floors until Thursday this week, but I will leave an update after I try it. Wish me luck!!

I don't have any photos to post of the house, but I hope to this week sometime in between talent show rehearsal and the actual show for Owen. This week will be one busy week for us.

Make your week a great one!

be blessed!

"Truth is the property of no individual but is the treasure of all men." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Saturday we were supposed to meet the builder to go over some house details. Instead, we just went to the house to mark where we wanted the outlets, cable, and phone jacks. Most walls were already marked, so we just had to add a few.

The following photos show the progress they've made in just a week. They were putting on the shingles when we got there. (All photos are from my iphone)If you are friends on facebook, you've already seen these.

Hoping you had a wonderful weekend, while sharing the gift of the Lord with one another.

No April Fool's Jokes

We drove down to the house Thursday after my chiropractor appointment to do some final layouts for the master bath. After we met with Sparkle, (yes, that IS her real name) about the flooring, we took a drive back over to the house to see how far they got in just a few hours. The floor was layed, and they were working on 5 walls.

And Friday, after we had driven to MD when O's flight was changed again, we received a call saying the plan wasn't going to work for the layout; there wasn't enough room.

So.... we drove back down this afternoon when we got home from MD.

We couldn't believe the progress that was made in just three days.

From left to right the rooms go as follows: O's room, the office, foyer, laundry, pantry, and then our bathroom is at the back wall of the garage. The porch is from the office wall to the laundry room, and will be covered.  Over head is the FROG (finished room over the garage, for those of you that live west of the Appalacheans. It's about the same size as our apartment was back home. It has an additional full closet and full bath that extends over our bathroom.

From the foyer you can look out what will be french doors off the great room. These actually are a separator between the living (great) room and the kitchen. You can sort of see the kitchen windows to the right of the door opening.

The is the back of the house. From left to right the rooms are the master bedroom, 4 windows make up the kitchen), the living (great) room with the french doors and windows, and then T's room.

....
Laying out another idea for a bathroom took about an hour and a half. As with anything, there was some compromising that entered in the picture. Smaller walk in closet, but only a half-wall for the biffy so the space doesn't feel so compressed. We also added a window above the lou, so sun could get in later in the day. It's probably not as much sun as I would like, but like I said.... there was compromise going on.
....
We won't be down again until next weekend.

Can you imagine what it will look like then?

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week! And as always,

be blessed!
